I recently visited one of the locations of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa (BGCCI) and I haven't gone a day without thinking about it.
The CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs spoke to our group. She told us that she once caught one of her students stuffing his pockets full of cupcakes because he hadn't eaten anything all weekend. He had been sleeping in a car with his mom, with no food at all for 3 days. Three days, no food. Many of us don't go 3 hours without food. Imagine what it would feel like not being able to provide food for your child(ren) for 3 days.
Prior to visiting BGCCI, we were assigned to take the online poverty simulation (click here to take this quiz, you will be amazed). Parents working on minimum wage struggle to support their families and kids are suffering.
On behalf of the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute (GDMLI), Class of 2016, I put together this gofundme campaign. We have put together a plan for each of us to individually contribute, but how can we make a bigger difference? This campaign is put together for us to have greater reach beyond our own individual contributions and spread the opportunity to our networks.
There are 50 people in our class. If all 50 of us have 6 friends that donate $10 each, we will reach our goal very quickly. All funds raised will go toward the purchase of items on the BGCCI in-kind donation page and given directly to the organization.
Thank you so much for your contribution. Every bit helps. Pass along to your Facebook following and lets feed those hungry children!
