There are many of you who know and love Lydia. She is a very easy young lady to love. She belongs to each of us through our love for her.

At the request of a friend, I submit this on Lydia’s behalf:

Unfortunately, your sweet Lydia has tragically and traumatically lost her new husband. There is little which will comfort her enough in the coming days, weeks, months, and years apart from God, but we will try. We will be His hands and feet. We as a community will come around her to support her as loving family and friends.

Many have asked what she needs. She needs your prayers and your willingness to be available. She is very humble and would never ask for anything financial, but will need tangible help. She was asked if she would be okay with this attempt to lift the burden and she is.

• She will require intensive counseling to process things and heal well, so that she can have a full and joyful life. Eventually her life will begin again. It will look different than she ever hoped it would be. When she does, she will need financial stabilization, so that the burden of her circumstances doesn’t get in the way of her emotional healing. It will be hard.

• Neither one of them had health insurance and the hospital and ambulance service will be requiring money. We will help her apply for charity care. We are not sure what the expense will be yet or how they eventually will handle it, however any expense is too great and she cannot afford the mental burden of dealing with medical debt in addition to the burden she already now carries at 23 years of age.

• She cannot go back to where she was living and will need to move. This may be with family in the short term, but she is yet uncertain as to her plan.

• She loves her job and it is a source of strength in her life and brings her joy. Her work team is excellent and have risen to the occasion by offering her both tangible and emotional support. They are able to offer PTO on a week by week basis at this point and will do so for as long as they are able to. She works at a retirement community earning about $16/hr. Lydia will be wrapped in their goodness when she eventually returns.

Lydia is uncomfortable placing any dollar amount on what you may be led to provide to her in support to ease the burden, so I will simply start the fund at $1 and if you are led to provide any amount at all, please know that she will be very grateful for it.

She doesn't have the energy to answer the 'why' questions. Please attend to your spiritual and mental health and that of those around you. Please be aware of the people in your life. Get comfortable and okay with asking the tougher questions. These are needed questions.

Also, know that the deepest healing can only come from the Lord and that God uses therapists. Be willing to go to therapy and let God minister to your heart through someone who can help you become completely vulnerable and allow your wounds to heal. He will bind up your brokenness and fill you with himself, but it requires vulnerability, honesty, and humility. Be open to that.

You will find websites for resources at the bottom.

Below are scriptures, specific to different mental health challenges, that you can use to combat the enemy. Speak these and pray these with authority. The enemy knows that he cannot hold in bondage a believer who knows their authority in Christ.

Here are 14 scriptures for mental health:

Scripture to combat Fear

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind.”

Deuteronomy 31:8 “He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Isaiah 43:1 “Don’t fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine.”

Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand”

Scripture to combat Depression

Psalm 34:17 “The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.”

Psalm 42:11 “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”

2 Corinthians 1: 3-4 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

Psalm 40: 1-3 1 “I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.”

Scripture to combat Anxiety

Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

John 14:27 “Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid.”

Scripture to combat Perfectionism

Galatians 1:10 “Am I trying to win the approval of men, or God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ”

Psalm 18:32 “It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect”

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
