Future Electricians from Nosara Need Your Help!
Donation protected
Five months ago, Patrick Electric decided to bring his skill, energy, and enthusiasm to local youth to offer them the opportunity to learn a fulfilling trade in a place where many people would either leave the area or work in low-paying, seasonal jobs in the tourist industry. A journeyman electrician and a gifted teacher, Patrick had a vision for improving the lives of the local young people in Nosara, Costa Rica and the surrounding communities. He gathered a group of ten students, ranging from 16 to 33 years old - all of whom have committed to a two-year program to earn their electrical apprenticeships. They attend classes two nights a week after working all day or taking classes in high school. None of them have missed a single class in the first four months of this program. After just these few months of training, fully half of the students are receiving on-the-job, real-life experience and earning a living wage, reinforcing what they have learned in the classroom.
Patrick donates his time to this effort after working long hours as an electrician himself. A young woman donates her time as translator for the class. And thanks to some generous donors, the students have the codebooks (written in Spanish and English) that they need to learn in order to pass the exam. The classes are hands-on, and require that the students have access to the tools, materials, and equipment that they will encounter in the field, so Patrick needs funding to purchase these materials to take them through the next phases of their studies.
Patrick hopes to expand this program to students living in Ostional, a town with fewer resources than Nosara. He is currently trying to find transportation to bring these students to Nosara - another expense - since few of them have the means to travel to Nosara.
This training has the potential to be a real game-changer for many of the youth of Nosara and Ostional. Anything you can do to help will be contributing to a brighter future for Nosara and the local communities.
