Hello Everyone,
My little cuddle buddy, Apollo, aka chunk, aka my emotional support animal had to have emergency care last Thursday. I woke up for work, and he just wasn't acting right. He was attempting to pee multiple times, even outside the liter box, with nothing coming out. I know my cat and new immediately this was not normal behavior for him. I rushed him to an emergency vet, EMMAvet. Once there, they immediately took him away from me and rushed him to the back to the Vet yelling possible obstruction.
From there it was a very stressful few hours. Apollo was diagnosed with an Urethral Obstruction and Struvite Urinary Crystals, which required emergency intervention. Apollo was also diagnosed with Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC) and Feline lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD).
At that point and time I was told his total care was going to cost between $3000 to $5000. I looked at the Vet and said that isn't possible, I will take him up the road to the no kill shelter and give him up for adoption to save his life. Thankfully, they were more than willing to help me out after that. Several vet techs volunteered their time, and they did everything in their power to help me cut down cost..
Apollo came home with me the same day, against vet advice, so I could afford to keep him. I spent the next 3 days bottle feeding him water, giving him 3 pills twice a day, and basically in a full panic every time he moved. I also had a very dear friend stay at my place so I could work and earn money to help pay the vet bills and mine.
In additional cost, he will need to be on a prescribe diet the rest of his life. That alone increased his food bill by $100/month. I can handle that additional cost. The emergency part not so much. Once the vet bills are covered anything additional will go to Apollos continuing care.
Thank you so Very Much!!
Danni (PaPa) and Apollo.
