On the morning of February 6, 2023, the people of Turkey, Syria and Lebanon woke up to two of the deadliest earthquakes coming at magnitudes of 7.8 and 7.6. The reach of the earthquake was extensive, affecting more than 13 million people in 10 Turkish cities. The earthquakes have killed more than 20,000 and devastated a densely populated region of southern Turkey and northern Syria. Main roads are closed, there is no electricity or gas, and on top of that, it is the middle of winter. People are in need of help.
The World Health Organization put the number of people -- both Turkish and Syrian -- affected by the disaster at 23 million.
