Help Luis Heal
Hello, my name is Luis Candido and I’m fundraising for myself and my family. I have a family of three, my little one Layla who is 2 years old and my wife Maribel.
I have recently been diagnosed with Warm Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia. This is a rare desease that only affects 1 in 3 people out of 1000,000 individuals. It is infact an autoimmune desease where the white cells attack the red blood cells not allowing them to go through the full cycle. The red blood cell destruction is called hemolysis. Red blood cells carry oxygen to all parts of your body. If you have a lower than normal amount of red blood cells, you have anemia. When you have anemia, your blood can’t bring enough oxygen to all your tissues and organs. Without enough oxygen, your body can’t work as well as it should. I’m currently in treatment pending my body to react to what I’m being given. So far no luck. I am currently being bed rested due to the fact that my red blood levels are so low. I will be starting another treatment next week but it comes with a heavy dollar amount. As you would understand we need some help to cover the costs of the treatment. My family and I would really appreciate any type of contribution you can make. Below you will see my in-depth story. I’ve been in and out of the hospital for a few months 4 months and have also compiled some debt. May God bless all of you.
I had Bariatric Surgery on 4/21/21 (Sleeve Gastrectomy). Had internal bleeding after the surgery and doctors did a blood transfusion. I was out of the hospital a few days after the operation. My thought was to focus on recovery however I was already feeling weak and my heart was palpitating faster than normal. I visited the hospital 3 times between my surgery and end of May.
At the beginning of June I went in to the hospital again. The hospital staff did a routine CT scan of the stomach and found multiple lung nodules in my lungs. At first the ER doctor told me it was definitely cancer. All I could think at the time was, how is this possible? I don’t smoke and rarely drink. I prayed to God, started reading my bible. My stay at the hospital was 6 days. During this time they tested me for valley fever, viral and fungal infections. All came out negative. They released me and had me followed up with the pulmonologist.
I followed up with the pulmonologist and at the end of June 6/24 we decided to do a lung biopsy. This biopsy was to be done to rule out cancer from the lungs. So I went and did the lung biopsy. Right after the lung biopsy was completed I had a stroke. God was on my side since he did not let the stroke affect me completely. The doctors treated me with clot buster medication right away and I was able to retain body and cognitive functions. My vision was affected, lost some peripheral view from the right side however it could have been worse. God saved me and did not let anything go beyond what it needed to be. I am grateful. I’ve followed up with my neurologist, I am receiving vision therapy and have an appointment with a neuro optometrist next month. Vision therapy and the neuro optometrist are all being paid out of pocket.
After the stroke I started to feel worse and worse. I met with primary doctor and he sent me for some test which pointed me in the direction of the Hematologist.
I’ve met with the Hematologist twice now and he seems knowledgeable. I was at the hospital this last Friday 7/30 and was released on Monday 8/2. My hemoglobin was low and received a blood transfusion. I did blood work yesterday 8/5 and my blood levels dropped again. I’m praying and keeping hopeful that it all works out and that the new medication helps me. God is good all the time.
I appreciate all of you that have called me and offered to help. It really has made me feel good to hear from each and every one of you. I’ve always been the kinda person that carries it all themselves but this time I need help. Hoping and praying that you can find it in your heart to help.
