The ocean, a vital force in shaping our world, faces unprecedented challenges that demand urgent scientific attention. At the Centro de Ciências do Mar do Algarve (Centre for Marine Sciences of the Algarve), CCMAR, we are at the forefront of this endeavor, committed to UNDERSTANDING the complexities of Global Environmental Changes, PROTECTING marine resources through effective Ocean Management and Conservation, and EXPLORING innovative Marine Products and Resources for a sustainable future.

OUR CHALLENGES

Recognizing the critical role of our oceans and the threats they face, CCMAR focuses on understanding the factors contributing to Global Environmental Changes. Our research aims to protect marine ecosystems through proactive Ocean Management and Conservation, while also exploring new Marine Products and Resources in the face of climate change and environmental shifts.

OUR STRENGTHS

CCMAR's strength lies in its dynamic and multidisciplinary research team of over 200 highly qualified individuals. Our research groups, led by inspirational leaders who are also University of Algarve professors, overcome challenges with a well-established support team and access to cutting-edge research facilities. Our diverse research community, including students across academic levels, is a driving force behind our scientific achievements.

OUR RESULTS

Our commitment to advancing knowledge is reflected in over 200 peer-reviewed articles published annually. These results contribute to scientific discourse and showcase our dedication to impactful research, with dissemination through various channels under "Our Activities."

Training: Seminars and advanced training sessions contribute to continuous learning within our community. The integration of Ph.D. candidates into research groups, supported by our Doctoral School, enhances their research journey.

OUR FUNDERS AND PARTNERS

To implement our projects, we rely on funding from public entities like the Portuguese Foundation for Science & Technology (FCT) and the European Commission (68%). Additional support comes from businesses, universities, research centers, non-profit private organizations, and individuals.
