Beyond FGM

Dear friends,

On April 26th, Cath and I are going to West Pokot in Kenya with Beyond FGM. Beyond FGM and their partner organisation the Centre for Indigenous Child Rights have been working in West Pokot for many years, supporting the community at the grassroots to abandon the dangerous practice of female genital mutilation and participate in a joyful and empowering Alternative Rite of Passage Ceremony. So far over 6000 girls have chosen to say no to FGM. On this trip we will be visiting a new village where cutting rates are pretty much 100%. Girls undergo FGM at around 12-14 years old and soon after, get married and drop out of school. Beyond FGM and CICR work with the community to support an alternative pathway for the girls and young women of West Pokot. This is such an important cause and we are hoping to raise a further £2000 to support the ongoing grassroots work of Beyond FGM and CICR.
