Dear friends and family,
Our restaurants have been a sanctuary for New Yorkers in many difficult situations. For twenty-two years, they have allowed us to make numerous contributions to the neighborhood and to the local schools; we have supported many nonprofits and have continuously sponsored the arts and culture throughout the years.
We hold the memory of 9/11 deep in our hearts, when our guests came directly to Café Frida to shelter in. We welcomed and embraced everyone, in silence, surrounded by candle lights, praying together and bonding like a united family. It was a night of unconditional support and humanity at its best.
We are deeply saddened that we cannot do the same thing this time.
The past two weeks have been unquestionably the most difficult ones since we opened, financially, but especially morally. We have suspended operations at Café Frida, Ella Social and El Mitote, for the first time in 22 years.
This decision has severely impacted our 100 plus employees and their families, most of our employees have been with us since we opened our restaurant group in 1998, but the safety of our team members and our families is the number one priority.
As the situation of Covid-19 escalates, today we are facing great uncertainty and an extremely serious crisis. At the same time, we feel strong and hopeful that together, we will overcome the challenges, and that soon we will be able to re-open our doors for you.
In the meantime, we are working tirelessly to support our teams while they are unable to come back to work. This time, we need your help!
