Help Abraham Study at the University of Toronto

Hello! My name is Abraham Otokunor Kwabena Mensah (Aby). I’m a 23-year-old living in Ghana's capital, Accra. I would like to attend the University of Toronto to develop knowledge and gain hands-on experience in business development and management. My education would help me create viable economic opportunities for youth in my country, but I need your financial help to make this happen.
I was accepted to the world-renowned Bachelor of Commerce program (BCom) at the University of Toronto for September 2021. I was forced to defer my studies to September 2022. This gives me time to crowdfund because I cannot afford the expense of post-secondary education. I’m incredibly thrilled about the opportunity to study at UT! The BCom program allows for a full year to study the numerous aspects of business before I finally decide on my Program of Study in business. Furthermore, a major part of BCom is international business, which I'm passionate about learning.
At home in Ghana, this type of educational opportunity is not available.
Tuition for the 2022-2023 academic year is $62,265, and being an international student, it increases annually at 5%. I received a one time scholarship of $192,000 for the four years. My fundraising goal is to raise a total of $158,300 more to help pay for the tuition balance, other school costs, and my living expenses during the four years that I’ll be studying in Canada. I would have qualified for the university’s full scholarship based on my academic merit, but the sudden death of my younger brother, John, immobilized my family. By the time we recuperated, I missed the deadline to apply for the scholarship. Crowdfunding is now my only option to try to secure the rest of the necessary funds. Thankfully, three donors provided the mandatory $1000 deposit, which was needed by May 1, 2021!
Through my studies at the University of Toronto, I plan to earn a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and eventually a Master of Business Administration, which I have no doubt I will achieve a merit-based scholarship to complete. My education will prepare me to help build prosperous communities in Ghana and provide the kind of opportunities that are currently missing for young people like me.
Any amount of donation you make would be greatly appreciated, even giving your time would be helpful. Please consider sharing this page with a friend. Keep abreast of my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/abys.journey for personal updates.
Thank you,
Abraham Mensah
PS. Linda Wagner in Toronto is administering this page and all funds on my behalf because GoFundMe is not accessible in Africa. Below is information about Linda.
I live in Toronto with my partner and dog Bella. I'm a retired Social Worker/Addiction Therapist who worked at The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) for 23 years and many years with the Toronto Drug Treatment Court Program. I got to know Aby through a former co-worker, Afua Asantewaa, who volunteered at the school in Ghana where Aby completed his mandatory National Service as a math teacher. I'm asking you to please donate and share this link to help me bring Aby to study at the University of Toronto.
Sincerely,
Linda Wagner
