We are students from the Video Design and Production program at George Brown College, and this is a campaign to raise funds for our Capstone Project. We’re excited to showcase our filmmaking skills and bring this project to life, and we need your support to make it a reality!

Film Synopsis

Misty, a spirited witch with a tendency for magic mishaps, is determined to find love in a lonely world where she must hide her true self. After receiving yet another wedding invitation, she decides to take matters into her own hands—literally—by crafting a foolproof love potion plan for her upcoming date with the clever and alluring Vivian. However, Misty doesn’t realize that Vivian is harbouring a dark secret: she’s a centuries-old vampire with a plan of her own. As the night unfolds, their magical and supernatural schemes collide, leading to a series of comedic and dramatic revelations. With misunderstandings and unexpected truths surfacing, Misty and Vivian must confront their motives and the growing, genuine connection between them. In a whirlwind of spells, poison, and surprising vulnerability, they discover that love isn’t about fitting in or following rules—it’s about embracing differences and finding connections in the most unexpected places. Bewitched Hearts is a romantic comedy with a touch of gothic charm, blending humour, heart, and magical mayhem in a tale about embracing imperfections and the unexpected ways love can bloom.

Director's Statement

"Longing for true connection, searching for a sense of belonging, feeling out of place, and being misunderstood—these are not only the central themes of this short film but also profound parts of my own life. They are experiences many people can relate to, which is why I was compelled to tell this story.

Growing up, I often felt the same struggles that Misty and Vivian face, though for different reasons. As a queer woman, and someone navigating neurodivergence and mental health challenges, I frequently felt isolated. On top of that, my interests (now seen as normal or even cool) made me stand out in ways that didn’t always feel good at the time.

Misty, a witch, and Vivian, a vampire, exist in a world of “normal” people, and their journey is a metaphor for these experiences. Their growth mirrors my own; over time, I’ve come to realize that the things that once made me feel so alone and different are actually the things that make me uniquely me. I might still stick out, but I’ve learned to embrace it.

What helped me get to this point were the connections I made with others—the people who truly saw me, understood me, and accepted me for who I am. This is why a central theme of this story is the power of finding that genuine connection, whether romantic or platonic. I wanted to show that no matter how different you might feel, there is someone out there who you can be your total self around, and who will truly understand you and love you just the way you are. I believe that portraying this journey through two characters who start off as strange in their own unique ways, and only become more strange and unapologetically themselves, as you get to know them, is the perfect way to tell this story."

Sinopsis 

Misty, una bruja enérgica con tendencia a los desastres mágicos, está decidida a encontrar el amor en un mundo solitario donde debe ocultar su verdadera identidad. Después de recibir otra invitación de boda, decide tomar cartas en el asunto (literalmente), al idear un plan infalible con una poción de amor para su próxima cita con la ingeniosa y encantadora Vivian. Sin embargo, Misty no se da cuenta de que Vivian guarda un oscuro secreto: es una vampira centenaria con un plan propio.

A medida que avanza la noche, sus planes mágicos y sobrenaturales chocan, dando lugar a una serie de revelaciones cómicas y dramáticas. Entre malentendidos y verdades inesperadas, Misty y Vivian deben confrontar sus verdaderas intenciones y la conexión genuina que crece entre ellas. En un torbellino de hechizos, venenos y vulnerabilidades sorprendentes, ambas descubrirán que el amor no se trata de encajar o seguir reglas, sino de aceptar las diferencias y encontrar conexiones en los lugares más inesperados.

Declaración de la Directora

"Anhelar una conexión real; buscar un sentido de pertenencia, sentirse fuera de lugar y ser incomprendida. Estos no solo son los temas centrales de este cortometraje, sino también aspectos profundos de mi propia vida. Son experiencias con las que muchas personas pueden identificarse, y por eso sentí la necesidad de contar esta historia.

Al crecer, a menudo enfrenté las mismas luchas que viven Misty y Vivian, aunque por razones diferentes. Como mujer queer y alguien que navega la neuro divergencia y los desafíos de salud mental, con frecuencia me sentí aislada. Además, mis intereses, que hoy en día pueden verse como normales o incluso geniales; me hicieron destacar de maneras que en su momento no siempre fueron positivas.

Misty, una bruja, y Vivian, una vampira, existen en un mundo de personas "normales", y su viaje es una metáfora de estas experiencias. Su crecimiento refleja el mío propio; con el tiempo, he comprendido que aquello que una vez me hizo sentir sola y diferente es, en realidad, lo que me hace única. Puede que aún llame la atención, pero he aprendido a abrazarlo.

Lo que me ayudó a llegar a este punto, fueron las conexiones que hice con otras personas, aquellas que realmente me vieron, me entendieron y me aceptaron tal como soy. Por eso, un tema central de esta historia es el poder de encontrar una conexión genuina, ya sea romántica o platónica. Quería mostrar que, sin importar cuán diferente te sientas, siempre hay alguien con quien puedes ser completamente tú mismo y que te amará por lo que eres. Creo que contar esta historia a través de dos personajes que, desde el principio, se sienten extraños a su manera y que solo se vuelven más extraños y auténticos a medida que los conocemos es la forma perfecta de transmitir este mensaje."
