Beverly J. Woodson

Our dear mother, Beverly Jane Woodson, passed away peacefully at her home in San Antonio, Texas, on December 22, 2022, at the age of 72. She was wonderful mother who was always there when her children and family needed her. She was loved and will be missed. She was predeceased by Willie. Lee Woodson her husband who died before her.

She is survived by her four children: Willie L. Woodson Jr., Terrick C. Woodson, Eric Tre’ Woodson and daughter N. Patrice Perez, her grandchildren: Danielle Woodson, Mercedes Perez, Guage Woodson, Paige Perez; her great grandchild: Corwin Woodson; her niece, Randi Amos, nephew, Ron Amos; and her extended family.

Beverly was born and raised in Houston, Texas, which shaped and defined her character of a no-nonsense person of integrity. As a ‘wild-child’ growing up in the 70’s, she always said how everything changed for her when she had her children. Her family was her sole focus, and she worried over and took care of them until the end, sometimes to the exclusion of her own needs. Beverly had a no-nonsense approach to life although she believed in flexibility, modifications and change. She valued loyalty, honesty, and authenticity.

Beverly had an amazingly dry sense of humor and a beautiful, infectious laugh! Her wit was razor sharp and she was known to say the most shocking thing she could think of, in hopes of getting a reaction and helping you see a new perspective. She made her whole family laugh with her outrageous stories, and all her silly sayings. She was kind, generous and compassionate.

She struggled with the concept of tough love and was fiercely independent and private. She loved her entire family, despite their quirks and disfunction. She worried about them, rooted for them, protected them, resented them, forgave them, and always kept on loving them.

Never one to settle, Beverly, a lifelong love for children led her into pursuing child care and earning her Master's Degree in Child Development from the Concordia University of Minnesota and she didn't stop there before earning 3 more Masters degrees. She spent over 30 years dedicated to Child and Youth Services with the military as a Child Development and After School Programs Coordinator. She helped children discover their talents and into existence. Under her guidance, built a Child Development Program in South Korea that flourished.

Beverly loved her family dearly. Her children were the light of her life and cherished her relationship with them. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, colleague and friend. She touched the lives of so many people. She will truly be missed and will never, ever, be forgotten. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.

There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to her caregivers who helped her with her day-to-day needs in the months leading up to her passing. Also, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Landon Ridge Apartments, her nurse, Maria Trujillo, and Miriam Garcia with Meadowlawn Funeral Home for making our mother’s final arrangements smooth and memorable.

Memorial Services Information:

The burial ceremony will begin promptly at 1:45 pm, January 25, 2023, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas, where she will be interred along with her husband, Willie. Service will be at Commital Shelter #5.

An informal Remembrance Gathering will be held after burial, approximately, at 3:30 pm, January 25, 2023, in the Game Room on the 4th floor of Beverly’s apartment complex. Landon Ridge Apartments - Independent Living is located at 11300 Wild Pine, San Antonio, Texas.
