BEV GOT A NEW LIVER!

BIG UPDATE!!
Bev received a call on the afternoon of May 25, 2023, that a liver was available!!! Bev had only been on the list for 25 days and we were shocked when she received the call.
Surgery began at 1:30 in the morning on the 26th in London, Ontario.
She was brought to the ICU around 11:00 a.m. The surgeon informed us that it was one of the most difficult surgeries he had ever done because of her previous surgeries. She bled quite a bit during the surgery and the new liver was sluggish to respond. The surgeons decided that would be best to keep Bev’s incision open until they could make sure that the liver was functioning properly and then close her up.
She was brought into the OR again the next day when tests revealed that they needed to shunt more blood to her liver versus her kidneys. She was then brought into the OR again on the third day where they decide that everything was good enough that they could finally close her incision.
Bev was taken off the ventilator on May 29th and was moved to the transplant ward that night.
Due to being sedated and intubated for so long, she awoke with “ICU psychosis”. She eventually came out of after about 2 weeks and her personality is back to normal.

She remains in the transplant ward as of today (June 28th) due to many complications: heart rate too fast, slow, infection in the incision, low/high potassium and magnesium, heart rate too slow, high/low blood pressure, low oxygen levels, diabetes (hopefully temporary), and edema.
She currently has a wound vac to help drain fluids from her abdomen and is on oxygen 24/7.

She developed a complication 2 weeks ago where her oxygen and heart rate kept randomly plummeting and they started doing testing yesterday to try to find out the cause.
She can walk around the floor and do some exercises with the physical therapists. She has long about 50 lbs of water weight already!!!!
Bev is now going in for ANOTHER surgery to widen an artery near her liver on Tuesday. The doctors still are perplexed with her oxygen issue, but she doesn't qualify for free home oxygen as her level ONLY drops to 65%, not 55% as per government rules. Home oxygen costs 400 dollars a month!

Due to some generous donations, either Mom or I have been able to stay in London with her from the beginning.

As of Thursday, if nothing changes, Mom will be coming back home until Bev is released. It is too costly to stay in London and Bev is much more able to take care of herself now.
The doctors do not have a current release date for her yet. We have been told that when she is released, she will have to stay in London for a minimum of 2 weeks and attend clinic 3 days a week. As she can’t drive or take care of herself completely for those 2 weeks, Mom or I will have to stay with her in London until she can come home.

If anybody is able to donate anything, we would really appreciate the support. While we knew we’d need some financial support we didn’t expect for her to be in the hospital for 34 days and counting.

If you are more comfortable with an E-transfer, please send to Bev’s mom at [email redacted].

Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. We are blessed to know so many wonderful people.

**we would like to say a special thank you to Bev’s donor and his family. There are no words that can convey our gratitude. Your willingness to make such a generous and selfless gift during such grief is amazing. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.** Sent from my iPhone
