The writer and director of Between The Frames is Kammy O’Brien, an emerging female filmmaker with a passion for telling unique and emotionally intimate stories centered around the experience of being human. She graduated from Orange Coast College with an Associate’s degree in Film and Television Production and is currently in her fourth year pursuing her Bachelor's in Film and Media Studies at UC Santa Barbara.
Director’s Statement: As a filmmaker, I felt incredibly drawn to create a story that combined undeniably raw and emotionally relatable moments with the intrigue of mystical elements. Between The Frames was born out of a single question: What if you got a glimpse of a future you never imagined? This became a fascinating question that allowed me to explore the human experience of dealing with the unexpected - all through the lens of a vintage photo booth and an evolving couple.
Logline:
When a strange photo booth prints pictures revealing their miserable future together, a young couple must find a way to salvage their relationship and rewrite their future.
About The Characters:
Miles is a rising journalist on the edge of a promotion to assistant editor. He is confident, driven, and endlessly passionate about his career. Miles believes in plans and working towards a future he intends to build. Underneath his confident composure is a need for control and a deep desire to hold onto the things he can understand within an unpredictable world. Miles' plans have led him towards taking the next step and moving in with Lily, but as the story progresses his carefully planned future begins to crack.
Lily is a soon to be graduated college student with plans of attending law school after a gap year. Her caring, ambitious, and anxious personality has driven her forward over the years to focus on finding stability, but there lies an uncertainty about who she is and who she is meant to become. Lily could not be more excited to continue building her life with Miles, but her hidden unexpected acceptance into Yale law school with a full-ride and the photo strips depicting the future complicate their plans.

Budget:
Our budget for the film is $8,000, which includes extra contingency room. Working with this budget will allow us to rent camera and lighting equipment, design and build the photobooth from scratch, provide top-notch food and care for our cast and crew, compensate our talent, create costumes and sfx makeup looks, and submit to film festivals.
Goals for the film:
Between The Frames is set to premiere in the Pollock Theater at UCSB in March of 2026. However, this film is more than just a class project to us, we plan to submit the film to several festivals and for awards throughout the 2026-2027 season.
Our Crew:
Our crew consists of 35-40 dedicated UCSB students who are all incredibly talented filmmakers. Every single one of us is so passionate about this story and determined to bring this project to the screen, but we can’t do that without your support!
How your donations help:
Your donation towards the film will go directly towards helping cover the necessary costs of production such as equipment, food, cast salaries, location fees, production design, and post-production.
We understand that not everyone may be in a position to financially support our film, however, sharing our page on social media, with friends, or family is a helpful alternative to supporting and spreading the word about this incredible production!
Thank you for any and all support! You are the reason we make art in the first place.
