Vibrant, passionate, kind, loving, independent, hardworking, willing to go above and beyond for anyone and everyone else - these are words that come to mind when I think of my sister-in-law, Bettye. Never did I think that at the age of 51 she would be fighting for her life and the life she has built with my brother and their sweet, ten-year-old daughter. You see, at the end of July, our lives were upheaved when Bettye had a massive stroke. She spent many weeks in the ICU. There were significant complications, such as brain swelling that required a life-saving brain surgery. But God is good and Bettye is a fighter!

Bettye has made significant progress - she no longer has a trach, she is beginning to form sentences, she is able to communicate her needs by answering yes-or-no questions, and she no longer has a feeding tube. My brother fought to get her into acute rehab, where she was able to receive aggressive physical, speech, and occupational therapies, which enabled her to get stronger and empowered my brother to bring her home with more confidence. We are so thankful for the progress she has made; however, she still has a long, difficult road ahead.

Bettye is currently at home with my brother and their daughter. She is receiving rehab services at home. Please pray for continued progress, as she is still in the critical healing and rehab phase of her journey. Next step for Bettye is follow-up brain surgery to replace the bone that was removed from her skull. Please pray for them. I ask that you also consider contributing funds to help Bettye and my brother pay for the medical care she has received and will need in the upcoming weeks and months and to help with living expenses and loss of Bettye’s income. I hope that together we can ease their financial burden, so that they can focus on healing.
