Betty and Pearl's Happily Ever After Fund

Meet Betty and Pearl! These two feline soulmates have had it rough for a long time, but I’m hoping I can give them the comfiest, happiest golden years possible.

I came across these two senior girls near my apartment complex, and after asking neighbors, I was told they had been abandoned by their owners a long time ago, and had been living behind the building for at least five years. You could tell by looking at them that they had been living rough for a long time; covered in fleas, bloated with worms, and their fur bleached and skin blistered by the sun.

I kept coming to visit, and I saw they were always together, and always looking out for each other. Betty, the tuxedo, is the chatty extrovert, and shy and sweet Pearl follows her lead.

One of the kind people in that building has been feeding them and keeping an eye out for them the past couple of years, but couldn’t take them in due to allergies. She thought they wouldn’t want to live indoors, and honestly, I thought the same, but I wanted to give it a try. If nothing else, I wanted to get them dewormed and vaccinated before letting them go back to their community cat lifestyle.

After a pricey vet visit, we made it home. To my surprise, these two settled right in. Instant princesses! They use a litter box with no problem at all, cuddle on each other, play with toys… I thought they’d be climbing at the window to get out, but I suppose that compared to where they’d been living, this is a five star resort.

After three weeks of being fostered in my spare bedroom, they are still as happy as can be. It’s amazing to me how sweet and lovely they are after living such a rough life, but I suppose they’ve always had each other. I can’t imagine who would have dumped these two, but the important thing is that they’re never going to have to struggle like that ever again.

Because I’m not working with a rescue, that means that all expenses and vet bills fall directly onto me, and I already have two cats of my own. Their first appointment alone came to $538, and before I work towards getting these girls adopted, I want to get them each a full work-up and senior blood panel. This will cost another $450 at minimum, possibly more, if more treatment needed.

All extra funds raised will go towards food, litter, and any other medical treatment these girls might need. I’ll update this page with the results of their tests; their initial vet visit confirmed them as negative for FIV or FELV, which is a great start!
