BETTER VISION, BETTER FUTURE SURGERY

Donation protected
My name is Figgie Figueroa and I was diagnosed with Keratoconus (KC) in November of 2019. I realized something was wrong because when I would cover my right eye and look through my left eye everything would become blurry and all I could see were colors. Little did I know my right eye would also be affected.

The vision of my right eye is at 60% and to prevent KC from worsening my vision, the doctor decided to operate on my right eye first in September 2020. As for the vision of my left eye it is at 5% and the second surgery is scheduled for November 2020. With my right eye recovering and my left heavily affected.

In addition, the pandemic and my insurance coverage, I was negatively impacted on finding a Doctor to perform this sensitive surgery. Thank God, we found one of the best doctors who specializes in KC and is able to perform a Corneal cross-linking surgery. Corneal cross-linking is the only treatment that can stop progressive keratoconus from worsening and it may help avoid a corneal transplant, which is major and costly surgery.

This is a time sensitive matter and my condition only worsens everyday. I am heavily relying on my upcoming surgery this November to fix this condition and go back to living my dream. From the bottom of my heart thank you for reading this and reaching out to me. Anything helps!

God Bless all of you, and much love.

What is Keratoconus?

keratoconus is often referred to as KC, a eye condition where the cornea weakens and thins over time, causing the development of a cone-like bulge and optical irregularity of the cornea (cone shape cornea)

A rare condition, keratoconus typically first appears in individuals who are in their late teens or early twenties. It can result in significant VISUAL LOSS, and can lead to corneal transplant in severe cases.

How does Keratoconus develop?

It’s still unknown, however there are theories it can be genetics or it can be a combination of things leading up to KC. Even your body can produce it as simple as rubbing the eye from allergies or having asthma or stress.

How to fix or remedy KC?

CORNEAL CROSS-LINKING SURGERY: Photrexa viscous, Photrexa and the KXL system a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that combines the use of vitamin B2 eye drops n ultra-violet (UV) light, that stiffens the cornea that has been weakened by the disease. They are the first and only therapeutic products for cross-linking that have been approved to treat progressive of keratoconus.
