Better care for Dakotas brain injury

On New Year’s Day our 17yr old daughter (our baby) had a severe asthma attack in the mountains while having a sleepover at a friends , she called me at 5 am New Year’s Day telling me that her asthma has starting to bad & to pick her up at 9am , we immediately went to go get her , staying on the phone with her the whole time , her friend came into help her and immediately called 911 , I heard the paramedics get there and were performing cpr ( a parents worst nightmare ) one of them got on the phone to tell me “we got a strong pulse mom” , meet us at mountains community hospital , where we were told a helicopter was on its way ( we waited an hour and a half only to be told that it was too foggy now to fly her so we had to wait another 30 min ,all while our daughter was trying her hardest to breathe , finally about 9:30 am we were on our way to loma linda! Immediately on arrival she was intubated and sedated , tested for Covid which was positive , on the 2nd of Jan Dakota was excubated , after days of begging for an mri drs told us , there was no damage and everything looked “ok” she had started talking , answered all questions and was getting better breathing on her own , she was also told she wasn’t trying hard enough to get better which made her depressed then at 1:30 am on Jan 5 we were woke up to be transferred out of the picu to a regular room , I begged for them to not move us yet as Dakota was complaining on being unable to see & feeling deformed as she couldn’t move her arms or legs , but they moved us anyways , on the 7th of Jan she started having seizures due to a medicine I asked them many times before not to give as it is known to give seizures . In this room her heart rate went up 200 & stopped talking , no nurse could be found anywhere , finally one came in and said “ some people are good at their jobs some aren’t “ suddenly a rapid response was called and one male nurse , my older daughter and I had to push her back to the picu we had no help but one nurse pushing her bed , in the picu they intubated her again , and another mri was done on the 8 th which we were told “ oops we made a mistake on the first mri , there is a significant amount of brain damage “ oops ? I was in shock , I was told she had a 3% chance to live ! &the Dakota I see lying there is the best I going to get , she will ever be the same ! During her stay at loma Linda we were treated terribly both myself & my daughter ! I won’t get into all the details of the actions of this hospital but trust me it was the worst . I was also told she would never wake up again and will just lay there the rest of her life ? But she was just talking I don’t understand I would ask , I also asked them to stop giving her morphine which I caught a night nurse giving to her while I was sleeping and so was Dakota she wasn’t even in any pain ! During this time back on Jan 7 I had been mentioning to the drs , nurses she was biting on her tongue , they wouldn’t believe me and 2 weeks later a charge nurse finally listened and seen she had already bitten half her toungue off because of these seizures that had started from the medicine I told them not to give and the lack of oxygen when they called the rapid response ! They had to call a surgeon to stitch her toungue back , which they still had to way or nothing to help her keep from injuring herself but two sticks which she easily pushed out ! two days later she did it again and had to be restitched , it has been a complete nightmare and my daughter who was getting better is now unresponsive and had to get a teach and a g tube to eat with ! They just kept pushing her out as they were trying to get rid of the problem , they gave me 4 choices of pediatric subacute rehabilitation places , which I picked one not knowing they are connected to loma Linda , she now lays there with no physical therapy and I was told she will never walk again ! I’m asking for help so I can get my daughter better care at a place that will really help brain injury patients not just leave them to die there ! I also need to raise money for a lawyer so I can hold loma Linda responsible for their many mistakes and the horrible care she received there . We pray everyday for a miracle , so I ask if you can find it in your hearts to donate anything every little bit helps , it’s taken everything we have just to get the medical records because loma Linda said this was her first time at their hospital ! When she was born there and has been in the icu many times over the years for her asthma ! Still have yet to get any records of past visits ! I know this was a long post but there is still so many more mistakes that were made , it’s absolutely a parents worst nightmare ! I want to thank each and everyone of you who have reached out and are praying for Dakota , thank you , you all are such a blessing ! I will keep everyone posted on her progress, I know in my heart Dakota will get better with the right kind of rehabilitation, this all could of been avoided if loma Linda didn’t keep making so many mistakes , but she has opened her eyes which they said she would never do , still can’t talk or move at all ! Baby steps and we are NEVER going to give up , God bless you all Ty so much
the funds will be used to be able to take Dakota home eventually or to a better facility and towards a malpractice lawyer and to help our family with the costs of all the extras Dakota needs . Every donation big or small will be so appreciated ! Thanks so much for reading this long post
