Francisco Lopez, best known as Fijn, is an inspiration to so many people. Known for his humor and witty stories that always bring laughter, Fijn has touched countless lives. But then, Parkinson’s disease struck.
After Hurricane Luis hit St. Maarten, MPC teacher Mr. Lopez was also affected in an unexpected way. Shortly after returning to work in his renovated classroom, he inhaled toxic fumes from the glue used during floor repairs. Soon after, he began to experience the first symptoms. At 48 years of age, his race against Parkinson’s began.
Yet Fijn is not one to be defeated. With his motto “Better and better every day,” he decided to conquer St. Maarten once more — this time as a sportsman and a symbol of hope for better health. Through campaigns and sporting events together with the SXM Road Runners, he has inspired many to keep moving forward despite life’s challenges.
Now, back on his home island of Aruba, Fijn will join his nephew Jeff Lopez to participate in his final race — the Lotto Cambiando Bida Run 2025, organized by IBiSA Aruba. Once again, Fijn will experience the thrill of competing as a true athlete, beating the odds and inspiring others.
So please, join us — for Fijn and for all patients living with Parkinson’s.
Let’s get better and better together with Fijn, and donate for better care!
All proceeds will go toward funding a special bed for patients with Parkinson’s. This bed will help them sleep safely and comfortably, reducing the risk of falls and injuries.
Every donation counts. Thank you for supporting Fijn and this meaningful cause!
