Betsy Kurtis Funeral-Medical Expenses
On Saturday, August 14, we lost the exuberant Betsy Kurtis after a brutal battle with ovarian cancer. She was such a generous, vibrant, funny, feisty person, it seems impossible that she’s no longer with us.
It had only been 16 weeks since her husband Brian died. The cancer may be what the official cause of death is, but we all know that losing Brian broke her heart.
Self-employed as dog show photographers for more than three decades, the Kurtises were well-known and loved on the circuit, not just for their skilled photographs, but because they were genuinely wonderful people, and it was always such a pleasure to see them and work with them.
But the self-employed are often lax at looking after themselves, and both Brian and Betsy died without any sort of life insurance. The family was still working on paying off Brian’s funeral expenses when Betsy died. Both died without wills, and their combined estate is in upheaval.
Brian and Betsy’s daughters, Laura and Kate, and their families, very much need your help, both to give Betsy a fitting funeral, and to help settle their parents’ outstanding debts.
Dog show photographs cost between $25 and $35 these days. Can you spare the cost of one or more photos to honor the memories of these two wonderful people? They themselves would be so grateful to know the community had come together to help their daughters and grandchildren.
GoFundMe no longer takes a fee from the beneficiary for this service. The account is being administered by Eric Hood, their beloved son-in-law. He was holding Betsy’s hand when she died.
