Help Beth’s Traumatic Injury and Rehabilitation

Hi, my name is Cate Scaglione and I am asking for your help on behalf of a dear friend to many — Beth Claire. Beth is like family to me, and so I feel I can shed some light on her story in search of generous helpers.

On Nov. 14, Beth and her horse took a traumatic fall. She was found unconscious and unresponsive by the time the ambulance arrived. Combined with her blood disorder, the situation was proven to be life threatening and she was airlifted by the Lifestar team to Hartford, CT.

While she has downplayed her injury to us, the situation has proven itself to be much more dire than expected — note medically and financially.

If you are a photographer you know Beth as an incredible talent, a model, and an expert retoucher.
If you know Beth as a person, you know her love for animals, travel, and adventure. And if you know her REALLY well, you know how difficult it is for her to ask for help —in any form..

After a 4 day ICU stay and intensive scans, it was determined that she pulverized her T7 vertebrae, suffered a brain bleed and shattered her orbital bones. In addition, she fractured all bones in her face.

This resulted in a series of complex surgeries to the face with plates, and her jaw required wiring. A second surgery broke the jaw and rewired. Many surgeries are ahead.

Sadly, Beth has also suffered a traumatic brain injury which will affect her cognitive and motor function, requiring rehabilitation. Her brain may have permanent damage, but it’s too early to decipher. She’s now attending a brain trauma clinic, receiving OT and PT among other treatments.

Her horse, Playboy, appears also to have been injured and will require some scans, resulting in veterinary bills.

How Beth will need our help:
  • With a broken spine and face, Beth is not able to work for quite some time which will put an enormous financial strain on the family

  • The insurance is covering some of the therapy, but she will need braces to keep her teeth intact and reshape her face, which insurance will not cover

  • In addition, she is now on a puréed diet for several months as the jaw heals. Some require home delivery.

  • Beth is currently unable to do her normal barn work nor her pro-editing work. Her eyesockets have been damaged and debilitating eye pain have prevented any screen time.

  • Beth’s horse will need some veterinary diagnostics to determine the extent of his injuries as well.

In this large photography industry, she has touched many lives and has been a leader in many classes, seminars and retreats. She has taught us much and shared herself with unwavering talent and authenticity.

As a friend, she is loyal, honest, and ultra supportive.

But most importantly, she is a mother to four children who are help picking up the burden along with their Dad to make ends meet — and care for the animals on the farm.

Without Beth’s normal income, the time is now that the family needs our help. Her injuries are severe and though she downplays it, it will be a very long road ahead.

I hope that you can find it in your heart to share whatever you can financially to help this beautiful woman recover such a tragic life altering accident.

She is so passionate about her horses, all animals as well as travel. As those things are on hold indefinitely, but she needs financial support to continue healing in the short term. We all know she will be back on her feet eventually. With our help, we can guarantee that.

Thank you for your consideration.
