Beth's Road to Recovery: Your Support Matters
Donation protected
On August 3, 2024, Beth’s life forever changed as a shotgun misfire nearly took her hand and her life. If you know Beth and the great strength she carries, you wouldn’t be surprised to hear how she immediately went into action and that her quick thinking preserved her life until first responders arrived. Once stabilized, she was put on the nearest Life Flight straight to St. Alphonsus in Boise, Idaho. Upon her arrival at the hospital, medical staff were convinced this would surely be an amputation due to the severity and extent of her injury. But after 3 blood transfusions and 2 initial surgical procedures, Beth began to show signs that, against the odds, she might be able to keep her hand after all. She was soon transferred to a major trauma center in Seattle, Washington, where she underwent 2 more major surgeries, including bone and skin grafts. Two long weeks after the initial incident, she finally made it home to her beloved garden and animals.
Through it all, Beth has maintained a positive attitude and a strength of character that few could manage under such circumstances. She quickly befriended hospital nurses and staff due to her constant optimism and good humor and was “a breath of fresh air” according to those who cared for her. She proudly wiggled her fingers and already had her goal set on making a full recovery.
One trait of Beth’s that is greatly admired by those who know her is her quiet strength and ability to not easily be shaken. After such a traumatic experience, it is amazing to see her carry on in such a manner and with all the grit and determination she can muster to carry her towards the road to recovery. Despite the great strides she has made in healing, she still has a very long road ahead of her. With 4 surgeries under her belt and at least two more on the horizon, we still don’t know what her final recovery will look like, but we can only hope that someday Beth will be able to regain full function of her hand and reclaim her crochet and veterinary technician skills we all know her for.
The reason for this page is to show love and appreciation for Beth, an avid gardener and lover of animals. A seasoned crochet artist and horsewoman. A veterinary technician who has dedicated her life to the care and healing of all creatures great and small. Let’s show our appreciation to a remarkable and strong woman and remind her, “We are here for you, you don’t have to be strong by yourself” as we walk alongside her down the road to recovery.
