My name is Brandy Tighe and my good friend Beth Case needs your help. Her wish finally came true recently to get her pancreas/kidney transplant. However, they have a long road ahead of them with bills increasing by the day. Travel, lodging accommodations, and work on the home front are where the help is needed. Her story starts here:
Beth was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2000 at the age of 12. She was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2018 after having the flu and getting a kidney biopsy.
Her creatine levels continued to rise and her kidney failure went from stage 3 to stage 5, end stage renal failure in February 2023. In April 2023, the doctors said Beth would need to start dialysis to continue life moving forward. On July 13, 2023, Beth had surgery to have her peritoneal dialysis (P.D.) port put in, in Hastings, NE. Dialysis began in August after the healing had been enough. P.D. turned the Case household into a mini hospital, due to all the equipment and solution Beth would need to stay living. At first, dialysis was three times a week, but quickly moved to having to be done every night at home. It wore on her and the family.
On April 4, 2023, Beth and Paul met with the transplant team at UCHealth in Aurora. It was an evaluation that took 6 hours to determine if she could be placed on a transplant list. It took about 3 weeks to get the acceptance letter, but she was officially on the transplant list for a kidney and a pancreas. Within the fist six months, Beth received 3 offers, one of which took her all the way to the O.R. doors, but unfortunately, each time the pancreas wasn’t strong enough for transplant.
Months passed with zero offers and frustration sat in. On March 13, 2025, Beth went on to an isolated kidney list, while at her annual transplant evaluation. Doing this allowed her a greater chance to receive at minimum a kidney, and get a healthier bill of life. From March 14 to May 5, Beth received offers, nine in total. It was magic number nine that would land her in the O.R. and received a kidney, a pancreas and appendectomy. May 5, 2025, was no doubt a monumental day for Beth and her family.
The transplant surgery took approximately 10.5 hours. Beth was in the hospital for eight days and now has to stay in Denver for the next month to six weeks for follow-up appointments and blood draws, almost every day.
Kidney+Pancreas transplants are rare and Beth feels beyond blessed to have received recycled organs! “A new life free of diabetes and diabetes is so weird to say!” Beth says, “But this will allow me a whole new lifestyle opportunity and freedom for my family. Unfortunately, it’s coming at a cost. It’s been hard to accept help, because I’m so stubborn and independent, but I graciously appreciate anyone’s help. God is so good! Thank you!”
Beth is a huge supporter of the Wyoming FFA, Wyoming 4-h, youth soccer and many other endeavors! She thanks you from the bottom of her heart for all the prayers and help given!
