I have created this Go Fund Me page on behalf of my mom Beth Bangasser.
My mom is a beautiful woman with a personality that will make anyone smile. She lives with my younger brother Jonas and her little fuzzy pal, Bella.
When Beth was just 3 years old, she was diagnosed with a severe case of Rheumatoid Arthritis that has made tasks that seem easy for us to do, a little harder for her. This has been something that has always been apart of her and she has grown to be a strong independent woman because of it. Since she is so independent, she doesn't often ask for help from people, so we figured she can't say no to a cute dog friend!
Bella is a service dog that she received from Paws with Purpose a couple years ago to assist her. She helps with simple tasks, such as opening/closing doors and picking up mom's cell phone when it drops. Little did we know that Bella would become more of great assistance and comforting a year from then.
Beth is a talented individual who has had a love for creating art since she was young. Earlier in the year, 2016, her dreams of expanding her crafts into local markets were forced to slow down though on July 14th, when she found out that she had Stage 0 breast cancer.
This was scary for everyone and seemed unfair with my moms past. However, she stayed tough as she went in for the surgery where the doctor could investigate further into the lumps that resided in both breasts. When she came out, the doctor did not have great news. Originally she was diagnosed with stage 0, because they found lumps that were pre-cancerous. However, when the results came back from the samples that were taken, the lumps were in fact canerous. So, on August 12th, 2016 Beth was bumped up to Stage 1 breast cancer. The good news from all of this though, is that the cancer has not spread and remains in the milk ducts.
There were a few options for treatment and Beth's decision was to go through chemotherapy and radiation. The source of the cancer lives within a gene that the chemo will rid of.
A few weeks after the first surgery, Beth went in for a second surgery to get her port put into place. That surgery went very well and after a few weeks she didn't even relize the port was in her anymore! She said, "It basically becomes a part of you".
Shortly after the port was put in, she had a few heart tests that put her back a couple weeks from getting chemo. Nothing serious! Because chemo has been known to effect the heart, it was important for her heart to be strong prior to starting treatment. After a short couple weeks, Beth got the thumbs up to start!
Beth's one year treatment plan started quickly and it was once a week for 12 weeks. Bella accompanied her to every treatment and everyone at the hospital loved the furry company as well. As treatment continued, Beth's hair got thinner and eventually all fell out. Including her eyebrows and eyelashes, which she said was kind of a weird feeling. With no hair and the cold weather coming in, she was excited to start wearing all the cute warm hats that all of her friends and family got/made for her!
After 12 treatments, Beth had a small break over Christmas and into the new year. It was nice for her, because cancer wasn't the center of her life anymore. She was able to focus on the holidays and have the energy to enjoy all the festivities.
Come January 2017, she started treatment again, but this time she only had to go once a month! Her hair is starting to grow back and Beth feels a lot better now. She still feels a few side-effects from treatment, but for the most part she is doing really good!
January 16-20 she did radiation treatment twice a day for five days. It was rough only because her body isn't used to getting up and going all day every day for 5 days straight. But for the most part she enjoyed getting out and taking little downtown Louisville adventures with myself and her friends.
Beth is currently half way through treatment, but still has a little bit left to go. The cost of surgeries, doctor visits, chemotherapy and radiation have not come cheap and unfortunately all the future expenses to come will also be a great expense. Bills continue to pile up and I don't want her to stress over those when she has a lot of other things that she is dealing with. This is why I am asking for donations on my mom's behalf.
All donations will be greatly appreciated as she continues this journey. Thank you all so much in advance!
