Bethel Lutheran Church Fire Recovery

Bethel Lutheran Church was established in 1876 in St. Olaf Township. The church experienced its first fire in 1914 and was rebuilt a year later. Today, there are around 150 members. Many began their faith journey in this church and have passed the tradition to their families.

On June 6, 2020, due to a lightening strike, a devastating fire took our beloved church. The Dalton, Ashby, Underwood, Battle Lake, and Fergus Falls fire departments were present to battle the fire. Unfortunately, the "church on the hill" could not be saved. As a congregation, we mourn the loss of our beautiful church. The building will be greatly missed, but we hold onto all the memories we have made over the years. We may not know what the future holds, but we are the church and we will rise.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

There will be significant expenses with the demolition and removal of the remains of the church building. Any donations will go towards the recovery costs.
