Hello everyone! My name is Bethany and I am making this GoFundMe to help with my medical expenses. On Sept. 22, I was teaching my class when all of a sudden I got a sharp pain running up and down my arms and legs. I finished up my day at work and headed home. When I got home, I laid down and then was unable to walk shortly after. I lost strength and movement in both my legs. I had my uncle and husband carry me to the car, and we headed to the ER. I was quickly admitted for an MRI. I learned that I had an L5-S1 disc herniation that left me without function in my legs. I was admitted into the hospital and was there from Sept. 22 until Oct. 8. I was not able to get treatment due to the pain being so severe. On Oct. 9, I went to see my primary care, where I was admitted into a different hospital immediately due to the lack of function in my lower half. I underwent a second MRI where it was found that my condition had worsened. I now had stenosis on the L3, L4 discs as well. My disc went from a 5 mm bulge to an 8 mm bulge. I was also diagnosed with equina cauda syndrome. I was scheduled for emergency neurosurgery. On Oct. 10, I underwent a microdiscectomy. I was finally released from the hospital on Oct. 13. I have been at home recovering. However, due to the prolonged symptoms of my condition, I do not know when I will be able to return to work. I am currently still unable to fully care for myself or walk on my own. I am taking it day by day. I absolutely miss being in my classroom.
