Meet Bethanie, the happy, loving disabled teen that has never met anyone she didn’t love instantly. Bethanie loves everyone, she is always happy and she truly does not know hate, she has never met anyone she didn't want to hug! She was born at 26 weeks and spent a lot of time in the NICU, she had a TBI and was eventually diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy with right side weakness. She learned to walk when she was 8 years old using a walker, finally being able to give up the wheel chair and today she can walk short distances without the walker. Bethanie loves school, she loved her teachers and was always so happy to see her friends. She really had a way of lighting up anyones mood. She did have to use her walker at school but during middle school it wasn’t an issue as the school had a proper ramp to her class. Her freshman year of high school she was placed in a class with an incline that was so bad she couldn’t walk up by herself and going down was even more dangerous. We pleaded for them to fix the incline and put a proper ramp, unfortunately our concerns were ignored. Myself and her paras made a plan to keep her safe going up and down the incline and we even put that plan in her IEP. Unfortunately not everyone that worked with Bethanie read the IEP and on Feb 22, 2022, while walking down the incline unassisted her walker went down too fast and Bethanie went forward, completely out of the walker and landed on her face on the concrete. The impact cause two teeth to completely come out of her mouth. Bethanie was diagnosed with a concussion, which due to the TBI from birth ended up lasting over 3 months. With all her other medical conditions we spent months going back and forth to all of her doctors so they could assess for any further damage. Her orthopedic had to xray the rod in her leg to insure it was still in place, her neurologist ran multiple CT and MRIs to insure the fluid on her brain had not been disturbed and to insure no further brain trauma. We went to the dentist to make sure sure there was no roots left from the teeth that had come out, we went to another dentist to see how we could replace her teeth and what would need to be done and how much it would cost. At every turn we found out just how much damage had been done from losing two teeth and the timeline of even being able to replace those teeth. Then at a recent dentist appointment we found out that another tooth was damaged also and now she will end up losing a 3rd tooth. We have lawyers but because it’s against a school board they aren't very hopeful that she will ever be properly compensated. We aren’t trying to raise all the money for her dental work, but just some of it so that we can make a down payment and set up payment plans for implants or even get a partial, just something that will give our baby back her teeth. Any donation is greatly appreciated!
