Emergency Relief / Save Beth's Home
Donation protected
My name is Beth and this is my husband Randy, who passed away unexpectedly on November 25, 2016, the day after Thanksgiving.
When we first met, I was working as a research librarian at Marshall Graduate College. Randy was a contractor and an excellent mason, who left his mark on all that he built. He loved his work and was happiest when he was on a job. He was a big man with even bigger dreams. Our dream was to build a house in the country and start a new life together. I left my job to help manage the family business and we bought our perfect little "fixer upper," nestled on 4 1/2 acres in rural West Virginia.
Before I returned home from the hospital on the day he died, people who knew Randy was the kind of man who'd rather store away his savings at home than at a bank, robbed our property and absconded with thousands of dollars in cash, professional grade tools, a vehicle, and miscellaneous valuable personal items.
Randy was a simple, self-employed man and did not have a retirement package, a pension, life insurance or a living will. With everything hitting at once, I've not only been left with no time to grieve, but am at risk of losing everything we worked so hard for... I'm losing our dream.
I have decided to do everything I can to prevent this from happening. I'm continuing to look for work as I begin the process of "starting over again," but even entry level jobs are a tough find in West Virginia. I feel confident the right opportunity will come along, but in the meantime, I am reaching out in desperate need of immediate relief to help cover funds for utilities and to keep our home. We are only $8,000 away from owning our property in full.
I know when we lose a loved one, we are supposed to move forward by keeping a part of them alive through the way we live. Randy fought and won many battles in his life, including one with stage four cancer several years ago, and he never gave up on our dream. I will carry his strength within me because I know he would never want me to give up either.
So, I'm throwing pride aside and asking for help. I know we all have our own struggles and this year has proven to be a difficult one for many people. Believe me, I absolutely understand if now isn't a good time. If you are able to help in any way, I will be forever grateful for your kindness, understanding, and generosity.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Beth
