In the early hours of Wednesday morning, October 31, 2018, our synagogue was the target of a hate crime. Vulgar and hateful words were spray painted on our walls. This occurred just four days after the terrible tragedy at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA, where eleven souls were murdered, during a prayer service, for no other reason than the fact that they were Jewish.
This is the second targeted attack on our synagogue in the past six months: In April, a suspect was arrested after making a “kill list” specifically targeting our synagogue. Ammunition and the means of perpetrating a deadly attack were discovered in his home.
Our synagogue plays a central role in the lives of so many in the community. It houses a preschool to more than 30 beautiful children. It is a house of worship to more than 200 families. It is a house of study for all those interested in learning. It is a social center for community members of all ages.
We are a community defined by love, openness, and understanding. The love and support we have received in response to this attack is humbling--from all over the globe, from all faiths and creeds. We stand as one in defiance of those who seek to divide; we stand tall and proud in defiance of those who seek to impose fear.
If you would like to offer assistance, please consider donating to this page. All funds collected will be used for the sole purpose to improve safety and security at our campus so that our children, families, and community continue to thrive. Specifically, our goal is to collect enough money to hire a full time security guard for the next three years.
We refuse to bow down to hate. We stand together. We stand proud.
