Hello. My name is Beth Ann Eftink.
A few years ago, I underwent two grueling regimens of chemotherpy that resulted in chemotherapy-induced neuropathy. The chemo was the front line against a rare form of ovarian cancer. As a result of those treatments, I have a difficult time with pain in my fingers and numbness in my feet that have made it nearly impossible to safely drive a car with standard pedals.
In January 2024, I had a stroke that affected the motor functions on the right side of my body. Physical therapy and occupational therapy have helped me to restore some of this function.
I am currently in training to drive a car with hand controls as the therapist thinks it is unsafe for me to drive with my feet. It's a new experience and different, but it's progressing well.
Soon, I will have to modify my car or look into getting a new car to modify as my car is a 17 year old, high-mileage vehicle.
I hate asking for help, but there is no way to do this without assistance. The training sessions run $150 a session, and car modification is around $5000. Neither is covered by any kind of insurance - car or medical. And the therapist cannot say for sure exactly how much training I'll need.
Please help me reach my goal and gain a bit of independence once again. My parents are gracious and have been helping as much as they can, but they're on a fixed income, and sadly, they won't be able to help me forever.
If you cannot donate, that's OK. All I ask is that you please share my story and keep me in your prayers.
Thank you!!
