Fiadh is faced with a choice -
run away from the responsibilities in her life
or
stay for the ones who need her most.
- A MOODREEL TO CONVEY THE FILMS TONE
Bestial Ones is a family drama that follows Fiadh, a young, discontented single-mother who spends her days working as a home care nurse and her nights amongst the grit and grime of Dublin’s DIY punk scene. Fiadh shares a flat with her father Danny and troubled son Maithi. He was born when Fiadh was still a teenager, and as the two grew up together, they also grew apart. This resulting rift has caused Fiadh to feel restless, believing life would be better if she had her independence. An unexpected encounter with an old acquaintance offers an opportunity for escape, forcing her to choose between her child or the chance to leave everything behind and start over. Will she take it?
Bestial Ones is a film is about family, sacrifice, and learning to make the difficult decision to grow.
Bestial Ones is a final year graduate film for the National Film School in IADT Dún Laoghaire. As a student production, the film is entirely self-funded. Therefore we need all the help we can get. Miles has invested most of his life savings into the film, but making films is expensive, and we're still a bit short of what we need to make this story a reality. Any donations we receive will go towards paying actors, feeding cast/crew, transport, locations, props, costume, etc. Your generosity will go towards making a beautiful film that you can be proud to say you played a part in making happen. No donation is too little, and we are massively grateful to anyone who can contribute! If you aren't in a position to donate, sharing this campaign on your social media pages is just as helpful!
Directors SHOWREEL :
THE TEAM
Writer/Director
Miles Davis Murphy
- Majoring in Directing and minoring in Sound Design. His previous short film Fathoms made its premiere in the Oscar-qualifying Galway Film Fleadh, then went on to screen in the Dublin International Film Festival and IndieCork, among other festivals. Miles has a penchant for telling stories that explore the intricacies of family dynamics, and is excited to continue his investigations with Bestial Ones. He has been a front runner of our year from the get go. I have always admired his drive and work ethic, and my belief in him over these past four years has never faltered.
Producer
Michael Largey
- Majoring in Production and minoring in Television Production. He previously produced Fergal Sandison's horror film 'Death Trip', and is currently producing and co-producing two other graduate films. A force to be reckoned with and we are lucky to have him on the team.
Creative Producer
Cait Bird
- I am majoring in cinematography and minoring in editing, but since my first discussion with Miles about his idea, I knew I wanted to be a part of this film. I have been very blessed to have worked on redraft after redraft of the script with Miles, and with your help, I would love to make this film a reality and make sure it is up to the high standard it deserves. I have previously produced for the Film School before in my second year for 'Clara's Room' directed by Pippa Moloney. I am thrilled to be a part of this film and can't wait for you all to see what we make.
Director of Photography
Fiachra Gallagher Lawson
- An award-winning cinematographer whose use of framing and capturing of light is of one of the highest standards in our year. Fiachra and Miles have a strong working relationship and have collaborated on many projects over the years. This duo is a team in which I have the utmost confidence. Fiachra is also an incredibly talented color grader, and we are ecstatic to be able to utilize his expertise and knowledge in order to make the best film we can.
Editor
Sophie Brassil
One of the most hardworking, intelligent people I have had the pleasure of meeting in my years of film school. This woman is about to take the industry by storm - already currently working in Outer Limits Post Productions while juggling her final year of film school. Sophie's choice in every edit is always placed with care and with impeccable taste, which is exactly what we need with our film. She and Miles have also worked together many times and have an amazing working relationship.
Head of Sound
Sam Bannon
Since coming into college sound design has gone from a small curiosity into a full-fledged passion. Since starting out with “Lemon” (directed by Amy O’Reilley) Sam has worked on various productions and short films both in and out of college as an on-set sound recordist and post sound designer.
'I am truly humbled to have been asked to join miles’ team in order to bring his vision to life and I look forward to future collaborations with miles and the rest of the crew.'
The only sound major in the year, minoring in editing, Sam is great. Over the past few months, he has been locked in the sound room preparing for this film, and we're excited to work alongside him and hear what he brings to this film!
Thank you for reading!
