Besh Barmag Bird Migration Count in Azerbaijan

Greetings from your Birding Azerbaijan Team! We're a diverse group united by our passion for birds and committed to their conservation. With members hailing from Azerbaijan, Germany and Sweden, we've joined forces to protect these magnificent creatures, but we need your help to continue our vital work.

Nestled between the greater Caucasus and the Caspian Sea lies one such site, the Besh Barmag bottleneck in Azerbaijan - a vital corridor for migratory birds. Here, we diligently count and observe, gathering crucial data that informs conservation efforts. Over the years, we've tallied stunning 2 to 3 million birds annually.

But our efforts rely on more than just passion; they require resources. While counting birds might seem like a simple task, the reality is quite different. Securing volunteers willing to dedicate themselves to long hours of observation, often in remote locations, is a challenge. Many of our volunteers are locals or students who selflessly invest their savings in travel and accommodations to join our cause.

To ensure the sustainability of our work, we need your support. Your contributions will enable us to offer better incentives for volunteers, including reduced travel and accommodation costs. At the moment we are still unsure, if we even can cover the three month of dedicated fieldwork making support from fundraising even more important.

Besides collecting scientific data, we promote bird and nature conservation for kids, students and nature enthusiasts that frequently visit our counting site. In Azerbaijan, we play a crucial role in educating and inspiring the next generation of conservationists. By nurturing an interest in birds among young people, we're sowing the seeds for a brighter, more sustainable future.

Zülfü, Elvin, and Leyla embody the difference passionate individuals can make. Together, we've achieved remarkable progress, but there's still much to be done. With your support, we can continue to protect our feathered friends and inspire others to join our cause. At the moment this project needs about 4500 € to cover the costs for transportation and accomodation of the volunteers and to cover travel costs for school kids that wants to learn about bird migration and conservation.
