Berv family medical fund
Donation protected
Damion Berv has been a dedicated employee of Assure Holdings since March 2021. Damion and his wife are a close-knit family with a 9-year-year-old son who is the center of their world.
In January of 2022, his wife, Denise, became extremely ill with a rapidly progressive, rare disease called Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD). There is no cure for CJD, and it is always fatal. The symptoms mainly affect the nervous system's workings (neurological symptoms), and these symptoms rapidly worsen in a few months. In addition, they affect a person's behavior, emotions (psychological symptoms), and a person's cognitive abilities, which have declined aggressively for Denise.
As you can imagine, this disease is taking its toll on the family financially, emotionally, and physically. They are now a single-earner family with many medical bills and expenses related to her condition's intensive care. Damion and his son are helpless to stop the progression and can only watch this devastating disease rapidly take control of Denise. She has been in and out of hospitals for the condition and the results of the disease. She has had to go through surgery to replace a broken hip and recently fell again, resulting in many more broken bones, which cannot be repaired due to her condition.
As a result of the cognitive and physical symptoms, she can no longer care for herself. She needs to stay at a long-term acute care facility or urgently needs a home bedside nurse. As you can imagine, that will be very costly, and the insurance does not cover either. Further, the emotional impact on Damion and their son to try to provide this care that no one can do will have long-lasting effects on such a young child. His focus should be on being a child.
We are asking for your compassion, so this disease does not also financially ruin the Berv family in Denise's final months. Please consider helping us help them ease the financial burden.
