Bertie to walk pain free

Hi my name is Julie and I have the most incredible ask to all of the animal lovers out there…

I have worked in animal rescue for over 40 years and now I have 10 cats, 2 dogs and now my darling Bertie who is the reason I am reaching out and asking for help.

Bertie is a duck, a duck that was brutally attacked by her siblings and the outcome is that Bertie has one of her legs needing replacing back into the hip socket this happened before she came to me. Bertie could walk in a fashion until she couldn’t walk hardly very well at all.

Bertie is my first duck and I can’t explain the love attached to this innocent baby. Bertie is 4 and a half months old and is the love of my life! Bertie is sweet and funny, she knows her name and comes to my son and myself who she loves.

when she collapses on the floor in pain with her mouth open and calling, it kills us both.

I have taken Bertie to the vets and have spent £200. I currently have pain killer for her.

trying to find a vet for Bertie being classed as an exotic has proved to be traumatic to say the least but I have found a specialist that knows about ducks.

I have had many cruel and heartbreaking jokes about having her killed and getting a duck that can walk but I believe a life is a life and every soul is a treasure so much so that I love Bertie that much that I would love to start my own duck rescue.

I have spent all of my money on my animals and that includes £1000’s of pounds but Bertie’s operation is just out of my reach,

the cost of her operation is going to cost £1,200-£1,500 however I am asking for £1,800 so I can make her comfortable at home and hopefully make her a much better run for her to really enjoy her new found freedom when her leg is finally fixed.

I have never asked for money before and it pains me to do so but I love Bertie more than my pride.

she is so special to both my son and I. She will become the start to my rescue and my absolute love of ducks.

all I want to see is my Bertie to wake up and be able to walk properly and pain free for the very first time.
