My name is Elizabeth Palmer Cook. My 83-year old brother, Bert Palmer, who lives in DeRidder, Louisiana, fell from a ladder that was propped against a persimmon tree when the limb broke. His neck was fractured and he was care flighted to Baton Rouge hospital in Louisiana for emergency surgery. After 2+ months and his neck not healing properly, another surgery was performed; however due to a “host of things” that his body was not able to overcome, he was unable to recover and he passed away on Tuesday, March 1st.

Unfortunately Bert did not arrange for his funeral, as he lived entirely off his meager Social Security check each month.

The cost of a basic funeral is $8,000. We have already received commitments of $3,000 and need to receive $5,000 to pay the funeral home before the funeral (required by the funeral home), which is scheduled for Monday, March 6th. So, if you are able and would like to contribute, it would be much appreciated by Bert’s family.
