Hi! I'm Heron. I'm inviting my friends to join me for a long weekend of learning about native berry identification, ecology, harvesting, food-making, healing colonial legacies of separation and amnesia from the people and plants of the land, and relationship-building with each other and place. My style as a facilitator is gentle, playful, thoughtful, and thorough.

This event is being held within the gift economy. My goal is to gross $3000. I will give 10% of that back to local Indigenous led efforts around land sovereignty, land back, and cultural revitalization. ANYONE can donate here on this GoFundMe page, whether you are part of the event attendees or not.

For me, this is an opportunity to develop a gifting culture, as inspired by many great thinkers including Robin Wall Kimmerer, especially in her recent work “The Serviceberry”.

As I build my new business Brae Botanical Ways, I am working to make these kinds of events a main part of my income. I am a long time educator with many thousands of hours leading groups of people in understanding wild plants and how to use them for food and medicine in the context of ethical relationship with place. This workshop is a “pilot” program, which I would like to continue offering, and your donation will be invaluable in supporting the development of this curriculum, and making it available to the public in the future.

As you think about giving money, consider that we are in a community, a network, a web of organisms in reciprocity with each other. This goal of sharing knowledge and being in community is something we are all doing together. Those of you that have financial abundance in your lives and can give more, consider that giving extra is an act of solidarity with others who are living with systemic barriers to financial abundance in corporate capitalism.

If we need to cancel due to extreme weather or other unforeseen complication, and you are registered, we will give back any financial gifts you’ve offered, minus any platform processing fees.
