Bernie's Cabin Fire Rebuild
Donation protected
On Jan 31st, 2018, Bernie Anderson (Noba’s Dad) lost his cabin home to a fire. Noba and Pete arrived home to find the cabin on fire, the roof already engulfed in flames. Bernie was safe, but his home and possessions were gone in a few hours.
The cabin was finally completed in the late fall with finishing details including window trim, covered porch and ramp, lovely deck and new wood stove. As you can imagine, with no insurance, the fire was a huge loss for Bernie, Noba and Pete. Bernie also lost his hand crafted sailboat and all of his photos, journals and personal treasures.
Bernie moved into 1 year old Zyla’s bedroom, in Noba and Pete’s home, the day of the fire and they shuffled things to accommodate him. Now a month later, they are beginning to talk about the best way to move forward. Wanting to keep him on their land and on Cortes island in his senior years, they are figuring out what to build for him and how to manifest it.
The funds we are trying to raise is a 'bare bones' amount, enough to support them in getting materials and some labour to frame and insulate a structure that will accommodate Bernie. They are also accepting donations of labour and materials for the building process.
This awesome island family needs our support in recovering from this financial loss. This long-standing island tradition of helping those who’ve experienced a loss is one of the many things that makes Cortes Island so special.
Please email me if you are interested in donating labour or materials and I will be in touch when the building commences.
With warm thanks,
