Bernie Garma Assistance Fund
Donation protected
To ALL friends, family and acquaintances of our friend Bernie Garma, as you may know he has fallen on hard times since suffering a medical emergency last October while living in Las Vegas. He was incapacitated and dependent on a ventilator for many weeks (NON-Covid related) until he was transferred back to California for Medical Care but the effects and continued treatment will be long term. One of the side effects of his condition is partial memory loss that is returning, albeit very very slowly. His long term prognosis maybe in a long term care facility, or perhaps even homelessness. As someone myself who was once personally in the same position of receiving the generosity and charity of so many friends, I am now asking ALL who read this to reflect if you are able to help out our friend in his time of need, regardless how great or small the amount !
The most important request right now is to raise enough funds to help Bernie get his car (and important personal possessions within) out of the Las Vegas impound. THE DEADLINE FOR THAT IS MID-FEBRUARY BEFORE IT GOES TO LIEN AUCTION, and his personal effects - which extremely sentimental to him - may be lost for good). His son Eric Garma is working diligently to obtain a power-of-attorney to be able to assist his dad, and Bernie's sister Laura Divina has set up a separate bank account where all Bernie's donations will go to help him out. The reasons for this is because of his memory loss, the facility he is receiving care at will not allow him to act on his own financial behalf as long as he is declared partially incapacitated from memory loss. I personally feel honored to add the first $200 to this fund and am asking all friends to consider assisting, even in this time where we are living in a Covid world. Every little bit will help with the storage fees, legal and administrative costs and perhaps even legal fees needed to protect Bernie. Any leftover funds will certainly go directly to Bernie to help re-achieve a respectable quality of life.
