My name is Laura and this is my grandfather's story, he will be 68 years old next January 22nd.
On November 6th of 2020 he was diagnosed with lung cancer stage 4. Days later he underwent testing of MRI and CT scan confirming a Adenocarcinoma non-small cell cancer, stage 4 with metastasis to bones and lymph nodes. A few days later an infusion was performed causing a terrible reaction with frequent vomit, loss of appetite, headaches and asphyxia.
As a consequence of all this he hasn't been able to sleep in his bed due to the lack of air flow and he feels his chest boiling inside causing unstoppable terrible coughing, as a result he must sleep in a sitting position in the living room with a bad quality sleep.
The doctor prescribed a medicine named Tagrisso, this is very expensive, roughly $18,000 monthly (something unaffordable for him).
His condition and additionally the pandemic crisis have made impossible for him to return to work. His only means of survival has been his little savings that are dwindling down very quickly due to the medical expenses that continue to grow.
Thanks to my current job in the pharmacy I was able to help him with a coupon of the pharmaceutical Astra Zeneca company that produces the drug. They decided to help him with a yearly patient assistance program of $26,000 for the medicine, he is very thankful but this is far from the monthly expense of $18,000 needed.
On December 22nd he received the medicine that has helped relieve the symptoms.
It is imperative that he continues taking this medicine without interruption in order to improve his quality of life significantly.
Unfortunately this type of cancer is not curable but the medicine will extend his life.

Mi nombre es Laura y esta es la historia de mi abuelo que cumplirá 68 años el próximo 22 de Enero.
En Noviembre 6 del 2020, mi abuelo fue diagnosticado con cancer de pulmon estado 4.
Dias despues le practicaron los examenes de MRI y CT scans confirmando el Adenocarcinoma non-small cell en estado 4 con metastasis en los huesos y en el sistema linfático.
Pocos dias despues le practicaron una infusion que le causo una terrible reaccion con vomito frecuente, perdida total de apetito, dolor de cabeza , asfixia.
Como consecuencia de todo eso, no ha podido dormir en su cama ya le falta el aire y siente que el pecho le hierve por dentro causandole una tos terrible, al punto de tener que dormir sentado en el sofa de la sala, con una muy mala calidad de sueño.
El médico le prescribió una medicina llamada Tagrisso, esta es demasiado costosa, alrededor de US$18,000 mensuales (algo imposible de pagar para el).
Con la condicion de mi abuelo y con esta pandemia no a podido regresar al trabajo.
Se ha podido sostener gracias a sus pocos ahorros casi ya inexistentes por los innumerables gastos medicos, costosos y en aumento.
Gracias a mi trabajo en farmacia pude hallar un coupon del laboratorio Astra-zeneca, que produce este costoso medicamento. Esta empresa farmacéutica le otorgo un auxilio anual de US$26,000 por el cual está muy agradecido pero esta lejos de poder cubrir los $18,000 mensuales.
El 22 de Diciembre del 2020 recibió la medicina que ha ayudado a aliviar sus sintomas.
Es imperativo que continúe tomando esta medicina sin interrupción, de esta manera su calidad de vida va a mejorar notablemente.
El Cáncer desafortunadamente no es curable, pero esta medicina le ayudará a que el cancer no siga avanzando y pueda vivir algunos años mas.
