Hi, my name is Dr. Michael Taylor, Ph.D. I am writing this on behalf of my post-doc, Bernard Baah-Kumi, who is in need of assistance. Two weeks ago, Bernard's wife, Yaa, was admitted to the hospital due to a sickle cell crisis. Unfortunately, early last week, she slipped into a coma and had to be medevaced from Reno to Las Vegas for specialized care. Although she regained consciousness last Thursday, her condition remains critical and there is no definite timeline for her recovery.

Bernard and his family are facing an overwhelming financial burden due to the ongoing crisis. Along with the considerable expenses of medical care, Bernard is also grappling with costs related to temporary housing and childcare for his two young children, aged 4.5 years and 7 months. Since his time at UNR, Bernard has been the sole provider for his family, as his wife, a nurse, had been waiting for their green cards to be approved so she could work as well. Fortunately, they recently received their green cards, and Bernard and his family were in the process of relocating to Roswell, New Mexico, where his wife could commence her nursing career. Their scheduled move was planned for Wednesday, April 5th.
