Hello everyone,

My name is Bernadette. This is a little hard for me to share, but I'm choosing to do so because the last few years have changed me in ways I never expected.

Not long ago, I made the decision to step away from my career in education. I was emotionally and physically burned out, and I wanted to be more present for my children - even if just for a year. I thought I was simply choosing a reset.

Instead, life took an unexpected turn.

Within that year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The following two years became a journey I never could have prepared for - filled with six surgeries, physical exhaustion, emotional highs and lows, and moments that truly tested my strength. Through is all, my family - especially my husband - carried me, supported me, and gave me the space to heal.

Today, I am beyond grateful to say: I am cancer-free.

Coming out of this experience, I see life differently. I don't take time, health, or moments for granted anymore. I've realized how important it is to celebrate life while we have the chance.

One dream I've held onto for years is visiting Italy - a place I've always imagined as peaceful, beautiful, and full of life. To me, this trip isn't just a vacation. It's a way to honor everything I've been through, to breathe, reflect, and step into this new chapter with gratitude.

My husband, who works so hard to support our family and has stood by me through everything, has even offered to send me on this trip himself. But after the reality of ongoing medical expenses, I can't ask him to take on more.

So I'm doing something that's not easy for me - asking for help.

My goal of $4,000 will go toward airfare and a modest place to stay for this meaningful trip.

More than anything, this is about celebrating life, healing, and embracing a second chance.
