Bernadette's Attack Recovery Fund

Hello friends and neighbors, if you live near us you may know about Bernie's attack on 6/15. Since then has been a long and arduous road of healing filled with many emergency vet visits. She will heal, but for every step forward she's taken, she's had another set back. Her traumatic attack left her incredibly weak and sickly, her physical wounds still haven't healed and won't for some time. She developed an infection that threatened her life after the initial bite that she's since fought off, but it cost us another trip to the emergency vet. Now she's hopefully reaching the end of her healing journey, the vets still have to take out her staples and stitches but her spirit is as strong as ever. It'll take her still some weeks to a month from now to fully get her strength back, but with each passing day you can see her personality roaring back.

Bernie's first two weeks back home required constant care. She wouldn't eat for the first few days and had to be fed water through a syringe. She couldn't even walk to go to the bathroom. Her drain had to be emptied 3 times a day and her port had to be monitored for infection and drainage. We also had to make sure her muscle and skin fused back together on her leg/stomach. She's still not fully able to be left alone all day, but we can go back to work now. That being said, we're weeks behind on payments because we tried to save our precious family member.

Many friends and neighbors have offered help with food for us or supplies for Bernie's recovery. Many more have suggested we start a fundraiser for her care. With her bills still coming in almost daily, we find ourselves having to start this campaign.

We are working with Animal Control but are unsure when or even if any financial restitution will take place. As of 6/30 we have no clear roadmap to setting things right from the attacker. We hate to ask people we love and care about for help because in a perfect world, this would already be taken care of day one. Now with our credit cards loaded with new debt and lost wages from taking care of Bernie, here we are.

Again, we don't know if the other party intends to pay or not, but we can't afford all of this on our own. Anything you can do to help us whether it's sharing the campaign, or donating a penny, is a thing you're doing for Bernie. I know she loves you dearly with her big heart, and she'd thank you if she could.
