Berkeley’s Bounce Back
Donation protected
Berkeley Carter is a graduate student in Southern Cal. Berkeley finished his last class and went to dinner with classmates. As he was walking to his car on the night of December 2nd around 10:00PM, he was struck by a moving car, as a pedestrian, and seriously injured. He woke up in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. It appears this was a hit and run and he was left unconscious. Someone called 911 so fortunately he didn’t lay there long.
He suffered a mild concussion and lacerations on his forehead and scalp (resulting in staples and stitches), but the most serious injury is to his leg. He had displaced kneecap, which required emergency surgery to stabilize. Full reconstructive surgery will be scheduled soon as he also has a fractured tibia and tore all the major ligaments (ACL, MCL, PCL) in the knee. His NFL career is probably over.
He has been released from the hospital but is awaiting the next procedure. He cannot drive so will need assistance from his fiancé, who will also have to take off work and is the sole bread winner. They do have insurance but being broke students, they have no margin. There out of pocket max with insurance is estimated to be around $27,400.
Any help that you feel led to contribute would greatly ease the enormous weight of the growing medical bills.
