Bereavement Support for MJ and Mike Parnell

MJ and Mike Parnell need our support!  Their first baby, Kaia Nohea, was due at the end of May.  Last week, they got the devastating news that Kaia did not survive pregnancy.  At a time that the Parnells were eagerly awaiting their baby's arrival, they are instead tasked with the inconceivable challenge of facing life without her.

We grieve with MJ, Mike, and their loved ones.  We would like to show our support by raising money for medical expenses, funeral costs, and family leave.  Unfortunately, our society does little to support bereaved parents and we would like to raise funds to offer MJ and Mike some time to begin healing without the pressures of having to immediately return to work.  

"Miss MJ" has been a part of the Together We Grow family for many years.  She is beloved by the children, families, and staff alike.  Her care and concern for others is evident by her big smile, easygoing nature, warm sense of humor, and incredible patience.  (And according to my toddler son, her snuggles are unparalleled!)  Mike works as a store manager at a local clothing retailer and is known for his kindness, good humor, and steadfast support.  

Sweet Kaia, your mama said it best: "Even in the midst of all this sorrow, I find that there is still so much joy to be celebrated, so much love to hold on to as my husband and I are enveloped in the warmth and loving support of our family and friends. We are heartbroken and we will be grieving for quite some time, but Michael and I will honor our daughter’s life. As fleeting as her breaths may have been, she lived and she was a part of me. A part of my husband. In the 38 weeks I carried her, she was ours. And that is nothing short of a miracle. She was ours to love, to cherish, to care for. Perhaps the world wasn’t ready for her, or perhaps God wasn’t ready to let go. Whatever the reason, even drowning in a deep sea of emotions, I know we will find peace. There will be peace and with peace, there will be hope again. Then faith will be there, waiting as it always does for the lost to return."
