Kathy, Bereaved and Financially on the Brink
Donation protected
Kathy and Tammy lived together as sisters, companions and soul mates. In September, 2018, Tammy discovered she had cancer, and so began a grueling two-year battle with Kath at her side. There was grief, fear, anger, acceptance, more grief... anyone who has been affected by cancer knows this cycle. Aside from this overwhelming roller coaster ride, though, there was courage, laughter and a deep sense of kinship. This was made possible only because of the unconditional love of family and friends. Kathy was at the centre of it all. Sister, confidante, protector and best friend, Kathy nursed Tammy tirelessly right until the end. No job was too messy and she never once complained, because this is what family is for. She always presented a brave face to her sister despite the anguish she felt in her own heart.

The loss of a loved one is tragic for any human being. The very best one could hope for is to have the space and time to work through the grieving process. Kathy, however, can barely even meet rent because it is now covered by her pension alone. She needs a housing commission house because she cannot afford a regular rental property, but the need for these houses is great and the list is long. In the meantime, everyday living expenses are overwhelming her.
Her financial and emotional stability is at stake and to say her family are worried about her would be an understatement.
Despite the ongoing financial challenge, Kathy slowly began to regain an occasional feeling of normalcy and the ability to laugh. At this crucial moment of self-repair, however, she was in a car accident.
For ethical and legal reasons, we will only say here that Kathy was not speeding, nor was she under the influence of any illegal substance whatsoever. At the most inopportune moment in her life, her car was smashed to the extent that it is unsafe to drive.
Like anyone living in the countryside, Kathy is completely dependent on her car. Without it, she cannot access shops, banks, the post office or her social worker. She now depends on family coming all the way out to her for companionship. It is understandable that Kathy feels the universe has it in for her.
But we know this is not the case. Kathy has lost so much and given so selflessly. This is not only exemplified by the way she gave her whole self to Tammy during her years of illness. Kathy is a genuinely, all-round, exemplary human being. No matter your state of dress, your manner of talk, your level of social awkwardness or eccentricity, Kathy will talk to you - about anything. Many have found themselves surprised to be conversing with Kathy, of their own volition, on all manner of personal subjects. This is the goodness in Kathy. Her kind, affable nature puts people at ease and oftentimes enables them to emotionally unburden themselves in times of strife.
So, here we are. Unable to give large sums of money ourselves, Kathy's family has come together to raise money for her. She deserves a break. She deserves to wake up in the morning and think only of herself for once. She deserves to be freed from that pang of dread at seeing the latest bill. She deserves to eat well. She deserves the freedom of movement. She deserves a house.
This is not simply a practical matter. This is the chance for Kathy to see that the world is not out to get her. That there are good people who want to help her, as she has helped others. It is okay to feel that the universe is not giving, because WE are giving, and we are a part of the universe.
Any amount donated will go towards a secondhand car and, if there is any money left over, towards the many other things (such as bills and food) that one needs to survive.
We thank you and love you for your help and consideration.
