We are the Berea SDA Academy Home and School Committee (Parent Association) members. We are grateful that our children have the opportunity to receive a quality education in a Christ filled environment from Pre-K to 8th grade. We have embarked on "Project Play", a state of the art outdoor playground. This will have an enduring impact to the school for future generations.
Berea Academy provides a strong and rigorous education to our children. However, our children do not have a safe outdoor space in which to play. Neither do they have an opportunity to play outdoors daily. A section of the school parking lot is coned off and monitored by teachers while our children play. As parents we see the need to build this playground for our children because learning also takes place beyond the classroom walls and a child needs the exploration of the outdoors to fully develop.
Our children need opportunities for play that builds imagination, teamwork, creativity and independence. This outdoor play space will support their potential to thrive and learn. Play promotes physical activity, reduces obesity and other health related problems. It also improves cognitive functioning and academic performance significantly.
