Bentley's Surgery: Family Seeks Support

Hello,

My name is Sadie Almeida. My husband and I are attempting to raise funds to help pay for our dog Bentley’s second surgery.

Bentley is a 7-year-old pitbull mix who we rescued at 10 weeks old. He is our first fur baby and has been with us for all our firsts, including the recent birth of our first child.

A few weeks before our daughter’s arrival, Bentley suffered an injury to his right hind limb (equivalent to a torn ACL for humans) and required surgery. Unfortunately, our pet insurance had lapsed, and they would not cover the surgery. We were fortunate enough to be able to pay for this surgery through our own funds and financing.

As you can imagine, adjusting to our life with a newborn and rehabbing Bentley has proved challenging. While he has done extremely well and was cleared for off-leash time in our yard, he has now injured his opposite hind leg in the same manner. He will require the same surgery for this injury.

Due to this being considered a pre-existing condition (even though it’s not the same limb), insurance will not cover surgery. We are now faced with this financial hardship in addition to raising our newborn and paying for his initial surgery.
