Bentley is our gorgeous 5 year old Border Collie, who was hit by a truck this past week on a very foggy and icy day while my parents were away. We rushed our sweet boy to the vet, in what looked like a very dire situation. He sustained head wounds, a broken rib, a broken elbow, air trapped in his chest wall, a torn ligament in his knee, and lost his left canine. He also has some pretty severe road rash and a few more small wounds.
Initially we didn't think Bentley would make it through the night, due to so many injuries and the very worrying air in between his lungs and his chest wall. He made it to the next day but was having a very hard time standing at all and we were worried he sustained some serious head trauma. The third day he was able to get up and go outside with some help, which was very encouraging! Only being 5 years old and a very active dog, we knew we had to try to give him the best chance we could, and prepped for surgery. The vet determined he would need several procedures over the next few months, and although we are ecstatic he will live and has good prospects for his mobility, my parents do not have the funds to pay for the surgeries.
Myself and my sister put as much as we could on our credit cards for now, and luckily got him his first surgery to fix his broken elbow. Once that is healed somewhat and he can walk on it in about 6 weeks, he will also need surgeries for his knee and his tooth that broke off in order for him to have a good recovery. So far, we have put over $9000 on our credit cards, and were quoted at least $15,000 to get everything done. His meds, his overnight vet stays and so much more is making it look like it will be closer to $20,000, but it's a miracle he's alive, and we want to do our best to give him the life he deserves.
He was already a very anxious rescue dog, and my parents are beside themselves with the thought of not being there for him when this accident happened. Anything is extremely helpful, as none of us have this kind of money.
We will use the funds to pay off the already amassed surgery bills, as well as weekly checkups and bandage changes, his meds, paying for future care and his upcoming surgeries.
Thank you so much for donating if you do, these animals mean the world to us and enrich our lives so much. They love us unconditionally, and we never want to not be there for them when they need us! Bentley is such a sweet pup, and we love him so much.
