Bentley is a 2 year old bright, strong, and absolutely beautiful little warrior who has spent the last 4 months fighting for his life. From birth bentley always had what i referred to as a little frog belly. Nothing abnormal for a child of his age. He was seen at all routine appointments with his family doctor and always left with a clean bill of health....that was until february 19th. His mother had brought him in to check on his tummy as it had seemed to have grown to an abnormal size. The doctor offered an ultrasound appointment to be made or to take him to the hospital. Of course bentleys mom chose the closest hospital. Bentleys family never expected what the ultrasound found. They were informed that their child had a large mass on his kidney and that he needed to be transported to sick kids. With in an hour they were in an ambulance heading to toronto. Over the next 10 days bentley endured many different scans and procedures. And 14 days in to this nightmare they were handed a devestating diagnosis. Bentley not only had cancer, it had spread to his bones. Bentley was diagnosed with a rare case of stage 4 CCSK ( clear cell sarcoma of the kidney). With a prognosis of 29%.
The doctors put together a plan of 30 weeks of chemo couple with 5 weeks of radiation. As well as surgery to remove said tumor and kidney. Now since the tumor was so large they couldnt remove it until after the chemo had shrunk it. On may 16th bentley went through with his radical naphrectomy and they succesfully removed the tumor!!!. In the coming weeks bentley is due to start his radiation therapy. Which will be a 5 weeks course of 5 days a week. With that means transportation daily for the family. That expense on its own is something that the family cannot afford at this time as work is not an option. As Bentley continues to get fevers and is admitted for 48 hours at any given time. As well as the fact that bentleys family welcomed a beatiful baby girl just a month ago. Bentley and his family have spent the last 4 months struggling to do this all on their own and that is no longer an option. Any bit of help is extremely appreciated.
