Buy a suitable van for my needs

Donation protected

My name isBen Parker, I am 36 years old. I live in a beautiful part of south Shropshire, near the town of Much Wenlock, with my wife Jen, two cats and a grumpy bengal eagle owl, Womble.

The reason for me completing a Gofundme page is that I am hoping to buy my own adapted camper van that can take my scooter (which is very large) and suitably and comfortably fit me, which is also very large (i am 6ft7)!!

I need a scooter to get around short and long distances due to inheriting a rare muscular disease called Pompe`s which is a Glycogen Storage disease type 2.
There is only around 150 adults with this disease in the UK. To describe it briefly, I have a gentic defect that was passed down by both my parents being carriers. This means that i cannot break down glycogen properly and the glycogen becomes so abundant that it starts to replace my muscles over time.

I suppose i have always struggled in one way or another physically but always just put it down to me being soo tall and having a car crash at 17. I wasn`t diagnosed until 2007 after i went through an 18month period of falling over, getting really bad vertigo and losing a lot of weight and muscle.
The disease attacks the core muscles first, so my thighs, hips, and my lower back areas are very weak and unsteady. It also affects my breathing (which has luckily for me always just been on the good side of bad), my fatigue and energy levels are pretty bad and difficult to understand or maintain. I get constant aches and pains and my bones ache quite a lot too.
In recent years i have noticed that i have been avoiding walking anywhere more and more, this is due to it becoming more of pain to do so.

So as my car is coming up for a change (through the motabiliy scheme) i thought it would be good to see what my options are regarding a scooter and a car to take the scooter.
I have now brought a scooter (thanks to some very kind donations from close friends and family) but nothing to transport it in.
The options on the motability scheme are very limited, especially for someone with a muscular disease who is 6ft7 and needs a medium sized van to take my scooter.
So i am now thinking of buying a van that can be converted into an useful space, the down side is that this all costs a lot too much for me to afford, so I am looking to raise some funds.
I am looking to raise anywhere between five thousand to eight thousand pounds to help buy me a good van, that has an automatic gearbox, can hold a very large scooter and can fit me in comfortably.
I dont like asking for money and wince a bit now while i am writing this , but it will mean so much to me and Jen if we could have a van that could give me some of my lost independence back.
Thank you for taking the time to read this an thank you from the bottom of my heart if you have kindly donated any amount of money to my fund.
